Processing of Some 2025 Income Tax Returns May Take Longer

According to the Dutch Tax Administration (Belastingdienst), the processing of some 2025 income tax returns is taking longer than usual this year.

Under normal circumstances, the final tax assessment is issued no later than 1 July. However, in certain cases, this deadline has been extended until 1 March 2027. This means that you may have to wait longer than expected for your tax refund or final tax assessment.

If you have received such a letter from the Belastingdienst, there is no need to worry and no action is required on your part. It does not mean that there is a problem with your tax return; it simply means that the Dutch Tax Administration needs more time to process it.

If additional information is required, the Belastingdienst will contact you directly.

We are also monitoring the situation and will, of course, keep you informed as soon as new information becomes available.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us. We are always happy to help.
