Check Whether Your Estimated 2026 Income Is Still Correct

Many of you have received the attached letter from the Dutch Tax Administration (Belastingdienst). Below is a translation of its contents.

It is important to check whether the income currently known to the Belastingdienst reflects your actual situation. This can help prevent having to repay a significant amount of benefits next year.

Subject: Check Whether Your Estimated Income for 2026 Is Still Correct

Dear Sir/Madam,

Why have you received this letter?

You are currently receiving a government benefit (toeslag). The amount of this benefit is calculated partly on the basis of your estimated income for 2026.

We have recently received new information from your 2025 income tax return. Based on this information, it appears that your income may have changed.

As a result, the amount of your benefit may no longer be correct. Since you know your personal situation best, it is important that you check your income.

In this letter, we explain what we expect you to do.

Check your income

The overview in the letter shows the income currently used to calculate your benefit.

It also shows our new estimate of your income for 2026. This estimate was made on 8 June 2026 using the latest information available to us.

If the income currently used is not correct, please update it as soon as possible via Mijn Toeslagen on toeslagen.nl or in the Toeslagen app.

The enclosed information sheet explains how to do this. You can also find more information at toeslagen.nl/mijn-inkomen.

Example

Income currently used: €30,000

New estimated income: €31,200

Important!

The Belastingdienst will not automatically use this new estimate when calculating your benefits.

Only the income that you report yourself will be taken into account.
