Although it has been possible to apply for a DigiD code without a registered address in the Netherlands for two years, many are still unaware of this. To apply, you need a BSN number and a valid passport or ID card from within the EU. You must enter the number and expiration date of this ID in the online application.
After applying, you must pick up the DigiD activation code in person within 30 days. You can schedule an appointment at the so-called DigiD desks online. The activation code cannot be picked up without an appointment.
Once activated, the DigiD code (Dutch customer portal) can be used. At the beginning of the year, before filing annual returns, it is advisable to obtain this code, as it allows you to download all employment relationships from the previous year from the tax authority's website from March 1st, eliminating the need to gather payroll documents, year-end statements, and UWV documents.
