Annual Declarations 2022

We are in the period for submitting annual declarations.

Those required to file a tax return will receive a notice via mail (postal/digital). This notice will include the submission deadline, which may vary depending on the type of tax return. Submitted returns are theoretically processed within 3-4 months, but the tax authority has up to 3 years to process returns.

If someone does not wish to submit their annual return on time, they can request an extension (uitstel in Dutch), allowing them to delay submission until March/April of the following year. However, the later the return is submitted, the more interest will need to be paid.

It is possible to request installment payments for the amounts due, up to a maximum of 12 months, by filling out a long form, approximately 11 pages.

If someone had a private business but did not receive a tax return notice, they are still required to submit the return because they must declare and pay taxes on undeclared income. In this case, the submission deadline is July 14.

If someone had employment income or received unemployment benefits in a given year, it must be combined in a single declaration with the profit from the business. From March 1, 100% accurate data regarding employment can be downloaded from the tax authority's website. It is advisable to wait for this because if just one employer or, for example, the UWV is missing from the return, the calculated data will change based on the tax authority's records.

What is needed for the tax return:

  • The quarterly materials have already been booked, so they do not need to be sent again.

  • If a private car was used for business purposes, a mileage report is required; if a company car was used, a report showing no private use is also needed.

  • Annual company timesheets (work, travel, other).

  • Bank statements (private) balances.

  • If someone has their own house, a mortgage statement (this can also be downloaded from March 1).

  • If someone bought real estate in the given year: notary bill, appraiser's bill, certified interpreter's bill, real estate agent's bill.

  • Medical expenses not covered by insurance and not falling under deductibles can also be accounted for. If someone has a chronic illness, a fixed amount can be accounted for, which we can discuss personally.

Please let me know in writing when you would like the annual declarations to be prepared, as I also need to plan to ensure everyone submits on time, according to your wishes (I would like to request a minimum of 2 weeks' notice).

A few important points:

  • If someone obtained a residence in the Netherlands during the year, they must request proof of annual income from the other country (e.g., Hungarian NAV).

  • The registration date is important for calculating the amount of annual tax benefits.

  • If someone has a minor child (under 12 years old) living in the same household, their name and date of birth are also needed.

  • If there is a fiscal partner in Hungary who has a BSN number, certain benefits can be calculated in some cases.

  • Was your first child born in 2022? Then it becomes part of your return if they were born before July 1. If born after, they can only be included in the next return.

  • In case of an incorrect address (country code!!!), the submitted return will not be processed and must be resubmitted.
