We would like to inform you that, pursuant to Section 52/J(1) of Act LXVI of 1992 on the Registration of Citizens’ Personal Data and Address, all Hungarian identity cards issued before 1 January 2000 will lose their validity on 3 August 2026.
This means that all old-style booklet identity cards (burgundy-coloured) issued before 2000 will automatically become invalid on that date, even if the document states that it is valid indefinitely.
We kindly encourage all clients who still hold one of these identity cards to apply for a new Hungarian identity card well before the deadline.
